Public Meeting on Plans for
Open Space at Millfields School
Elmstead Parish Council is considering selling off to developers the area
of green space on Bowes Road opposite Millfields School. The land was gifted
to the people of Dene Park by Wimpey Homes when the estate was built in the
Seventies. The land belongs to Elmstead Parish Council since Dene Park was
in Elmstead parish when it was created. Although the estate has since been
transferred to Wivenhoe, that parcel of land still belongs to Elmstead.
The status of the land is currently protected by a legal covenant, but
Elmstead are seeking to have that put aside. Wivenhoe Town Council are
seeking to prevent this from happening and not surprisingly there is also a
great deal of local opposition. Millfields School have arranged a Public
Meeting which will be held at the school on Wednesday June 16, at 7.30pm,
and has invited Elmstead Parish Council to send a representative.
Please consider attending this meeting to find out more and to support the
opposition to this encroachment.
In addition, you are encouraged to write expressing your objection to this
plan to Elmstead Parish Council. Their contact details are:
