Aficionados of the Bakehouse Restaurant know that a
wide ranging collection of art is always on display.
In November 2005 the walls were given over to an exciting
exhibition of recent watercolours by local artist Everard Longland.

At the private view a swirling crowd of guests moved
around the exhibition, or stood and chatted, or did both, with quite a
number vying to purchase. Of
the paintings themselves one may say that that they fall into three
kinds. Predominantly,
Everard's lovely flower paintings are the stuff of realism; these floral
images are carefully but not slavishly drawn; they are lively, and are
full of depth, colour and texture. Then
there are his abstract fields of coloured spheres, perhaps a bit
mechanistic but none the less attractive.
And to the eye of your reporter, the artist excels in dreamy, misty
and saline (in the literal sense) visions of .... But
you must see for yourself to say of what.
Anyway, it was truly a successful showing.
