October 2007 - Bonnie made a Deputy Lieutenant of Essex by Lord Petre

"Wivenhoe News is delighted to announce that well known local resident Bonnie Hill has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of the County. The appointment was made recently by Lord Petre, Lord Lieutenant of Essex and the Queen's Representative in the county. It was published in the London Gazette, and later mentioned in The Daily Telegraph.

Bonnie is known for her work in Girl Guiding, now in her role as County Commissioner for North Essex Girl Guides, and the magistracy, as well as involvement with other organisations such as the Clacton Citizens' Advice Bureau and the Colchester and Tendring Community Trust. Over ten years Bonnie, leading the St Mary's fundraising team, helped raise £50,000 for St Mary's Church in Wivenhoe.

Bonnie is a senior magistrate on the Colchester and Clacton bench and former Deputy Chairman. For many years now she has been helping to train magistrates across the county as well as regularly sitting at the Crown Court in Chelmsford with the judges on appeals against magistrates' judgements.

As County Commissioner for North Essex Girl Guides, she has around 1,300 leaders reporting into her and her executive team of about 20 people. They manage Guiding units from Chelmsford to Harwich with over 7,000 guiding members.

This is a great honour for Bonnie, and for Wivenhoe.

The next issue of Wivenhoe News will be in the shops during the last week in November."
