The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

The Lord Nelson returned to Wivenhoe on 24th May 1998.

People lined the river bank to see her.

They get a glimpse of her sails as she came up the River Colne from Brightlingsea, out of a slight mist. This was the first time she had been seen at Wivenhoe since towed away ten years previously, to be fitted out in Southampton.

There many boats out on the water to greet her.

Special arrangements had been made beforehand to get her into the wet dock, at the derelict Cook's Shipyard, where she stayed for two nights.

The Lord Nelson, built at Wivenhoe and fitted out in Southampton

Crowds turn out to look over her, invited on board by the Captain and crew.

A big reception is organised by the local section of the JST at Wivenhoe Sailing Club.
