Animal Magic - An Engine Shed Arts Development Project

tent might have gone up in smoke but this summer The Engine Shed Arts Development
team is presenting All the stories I’ve ever told…illustrated
with one beautiful tent.

Wivenhoe
storyteller Elly C. Stuart has
already completed week-long residencies in two local schools and
further residencies are planned for the autumn. The aim of the project is to give over 2,000 children the
opportunity to experience storytelling.
The Story
Tent, sports a wonderful river scene painted by scenic designer
Martin Jezierski and three beautiful story-panels made by Wivenhoe
artists Annie Bielecka and Eliza Kentridge.
The tent is designed to enhance the experience of listening
to the many stories which Elly C.Stuart will be telling.

The Storytelling
Project was launched on May 31st at the Wivenhoe May Fair.
The project is wholly funded by the Local Network Fund.
The five open
events are for families with children aged 4 – 12.
Each event involves active participation in storytelling over a two
hour period

to Editors
Elly C. Stuart
was trained at Arts Educational Drama School and at Emerson College School
of Storytelling. Before becoming a professional storyteller, she worked as
an actor, writer, teacher and arts marketing professional. She has an M.A.
in Art History from The University of Essex.
Her love of storytelling was inspired by her Irish grandmother, by
a childhood spent in Scotland and by her six years at the Unicorn Theatre
for Children in London. She tells stories to adults and children and
believes passionately in the power of storytelling to entertain, educate,
transform and heal people.
Martin
Jezierski is a scenic artist with 25 years experience in film, television,
West End Theatre, Ballet and Opera productions. [Old Vic, Royal Court, the
National, Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Scottish Ballet]
including Don Giovanni, Cosi Fan Tutti, Xerxes and Faery Queen for
the ENO. West End productions include 'Sunset Boulevard', 'Into the
Woods' and 'Bombay Dreams'. Individual commissions include murals,
animatronic displays, film, television, advertising and back-drops for pop
star tours.
Annie Bielecka
was trained at London College of Fashion and Textiles and at Colchester
School of art and design. She works in textiles and paints. She has worked
in Poland and London and has had a home in Wivenhoe since 1977. She
started work in a London fashion house and has designed and made stage
costumes for theatre productions and individuals
Eliza
Kentridge was born in Johannesburg in 1962 . She studied English
Literature at the University of the Witwatersrand, before working for an
anti-apartheid educational organisation. She came to England in 1988 where
she studied drawing and printmaking at Oxford Polytechnic. She has lived
in Wivenhoe since 1990. She
had her first exhibition of drawings in Colchester in 1992. Since then she
has held exhibitions at the University of Essex, in Harrogate, London and
more recently, in Johannesburg. She has an exhibition forthcoming in
Gateshead. Her work is increasingly collected and commissioned.
The Local Network Fund is a programme of
the Department for Education and Skills, administered locally by the Essex
Community Foundation. The
Government believes that communities have the power to make a real
difference to the lives of children.
The objective of the Local Network Fund for children and young
people is to give communities the chance to make that difference.
The award, of £7,000 is given under the Children’s Voices stream
of funding; giving children and young people the chance to express their
opinions and contribute to improving policy and services on issues that
concern them.
