July 2004 - Animal Magic  - An Engine Shed Arts Development Project

Tracey Emin’s tent might have gone up in smoke but this summer The Engine Shed Arts Development team is presenting All the stories I’ve ever told…illustrated with one beautiful tent.

Wivenhoe storyteller Elly C. Stuart has already completed week-long residencies in two local schools and further residencies are planned for the autumn.  The aim of the project is to give over 2,000 children the opportunity to experience storytelling.

The Story Tent, sports a wonderful river scene painted by scenic designer Martin Jezierski and three beautiful story-panels made by Wivenhoe artists Annie Bielecka and Eliza Kentridge.  The tent is designed to enhance the experience of listening to the many stories which Elly C.Stuart will be telling.

The Storytelling Project was launched on May 31st at the Wivenhoe May Fair.  The project is wholly funded by the Local Network Fund.

The five open events are for families with children aged 4 – 12.  Each event involves active participation in storytelling over a two hour period

The Local Network Fund is a programme of the Department for Education and Skills, administered locally by the Essex Community Foundation.  The Government believes that communities have the power to make a real difference to the lives of children.  The objective of the Local Network Fund for children and young people is to give communities the chance to make that difference.  The award, of £7,000 is given under the Children’s Voices stream of funding; giving children and young people the chance to express their opinions and contribute to improving policy and services on issues that concern them.
