Sat 4 AN AFTERNOON WITH NOBEL LAUREATE DEREK WALCOTT in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall of the University of Essex. Celebrated Caribbean poet, playwright, essayist, and visual artist, Derek Walcott, will be in conversation with Professor Marina Warner and Dr Maria Cristina Fumagalli of the Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies (LiFTS); and will then give a reading from his work. The event will open with the presentation of an honorary doctorate to Derek Walcott by the University in a ceremony presided by the Chancellor, Lord Phillips of Sudbury. Sun 20 Wivenhoe Town Cricket Club Annual Music Festival at WTCC. Entertainment is supplied by two local bands - FX and 3's a Crowd. There will be the usual two bar areas, BBQ, bouncy castle, face painting and further activities such as "Penalty Goal", etc.  Gates open at 1.30 and music commences from 2pm through to 6pm. Tickets are £5 each with children under 12 Free. Now in it's 5th year, this event has become an established part of Wivenhoe's summer entertainment. Sat 10 The Holocaust Concert at St Mary's Church. Violinist Kelly Jones is to hold an evening of music following the violinist's research into the musicians who were forced to play whilst being held prisoners in the Nazi concentration camps of World War Two. The programme is to include Bach’s famous ‘Double Violin Concerto’, Bloch’s ‘Nigun’ (No.II from Baal Shem), Arvo Part’s ‘Spiegel im Spiegal’ and the ever popular Mozart’s ‘Quartet in C’ (‘Dissonance’), which will be performed by the talented Scintillo String Quartet. Tickets are priced at £6 and £4. Available from the Wivenhoe Bookshop. Alternatively, tickets may be purchased on the evening although it is recommended that you buy tickets in advance. Wed 23 University of Essex:  Representing the unrepresentable: Putting the Holocaust into Public Museums. Room 4.722. Suzanne Bardgett, Project Director of the Holocaust Exhibition at the Imperial War Museum in London and Wilfried Wiedemann, Project Director of the Bergen-Belsen Memorial Foundation who led the development of the new memorial, will be joined by Professor Peter Vergo, Head of the Department of Art History and Theory, to explore the representation of the Holocaust in public museums in a discussion chaired by Dr Rainer Schulze. The University welcomes the Colchester and District Jewish Community to the campus for their annual Remembrance Service. Open to all, regardless of faith, the remembrance service will remember those who suffered or perished during the Holocaust. The service is free and open to the public.
