(LiFTS); and will then give a reading from his work. The event will
open with the presentation of an honorary doctorate to Derek Walcott

Jones is to hold an evening of music following the violinist's
research into the musicians who were forced to play whilst being
held prisoners in the Nazi concentration camps of World War Two. The
programme is to include Bach’s famous ‘Double Violin
Concerto’, Bloch’s ‘Nigun’ (No.II from Baal Shem), Arvo
Part’s ‘Spiegel im Spiegal’ and the ever popular Mozart’s
‘Quartet in C’ (‘Dissonance’), which will be performed by
the talented Scintillo String Quartet. Tickets are priced at £6 and

better links between the University of Essex and the town of
Wivenhoe, and to raise money for a bursary for a University student.
The dinner will be followed by a guest speaker who will be John
Ashworth. He was a founding Professor of Biological Sciences at
Essex, former Chief Scientist, VC at Salford, Director of LSE and
Chair of the British Library and is an excellent after dinner
