Saturday 31st December, 2005 - A Service of Re-dedication for the Wivenhoe War Memorial

Following renovation of the Wivenhoe War Memorial during the autumn, a Service of Re-dedication was held around the Memorial in St Mary's Churchyard, led by Chairman of the Wivenhoe branch of the Royal British Legion, Pastor Patrick Baxter.

Attending the service were Town Mayor, Cllr Tom Roberts, with several members of the Town Council, Churchwardens Mrs Jan Marks and Max Guy, plus members of the public and the British Legion. Special guests were Bryan Emery, County Chairman of the Royal British Legion and Dennis Donovan, representative of Halsey House, the Royal British Legion care home at Cromer, who received a cheque after the Service.

A Fund was launched in May by former Town Mayor, Cllr Peter Hill and Pastor Patrick Baxter, to pay for the costs of refurbishment. This Fund raised £4,678. The Town Council recently agreed to meet some of the costs directly so that a cheque for £1,000 could be presented.

Cllr Peter Hill said "we all agreed when the Fund was launched that any balance after re-furbishment costs would go to this Royal British Legion care home so that we might help the living as well as remembering those who have sacrificed their lives in conflict".
