10th July, 2006 - Works starts on a Skateboard facility for Wivenhoe's youngsters

At long last work has started on building what adults have talked about for years and what youngsters have dreamed about for years.

The Town Council's plans for a modest skate facility on the far side of King George V playing field started today. The base measures 25 metres by 10 metres and is situated equidistant from the top and bottom of the field.

The base is being constructed by Taylor Woodrow without cost to the town in a generous gesture towards Wivenhoe's young people.

When the base is finished, skateboard specialists GBH will install the 3 ramps and the 2 'rails' which will comprise this modest play facility.

The base is being fitted into the slope of the field and the spare soil being excavated will be used to help hide the ramps from the top of the field.
