March 2007 - Cllr Penny Kraft's successful Mayor's Ball

Cllr Penny Kraft, Town Mayor of Wivenhoe, celebrated in style at the annual Wivenhoe Mayor’s Charity Ball, held at the William Loveless Hall, Wivenhoe on Saturday 10 March 2007.  The Ball raised over £1,000 for Wivenhoe charities and was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester, Cllr Richard Gower and Jackie Gower.

The Hall’s transformation to elegance was achieved by Jane Shimmen of Oops a Daisy, whose white lilies and black foliage looked magnificent and Wivenhoe’s new balloon shop, Totally Balloons, added yet more décor.

The evening started with a champagne reception, followed by an excellent 4 course meal by Green Fig Catering. Dancing to the ever popular Short People then completed a very enjoyable evening.

Wivenhoe businesses and people were generous in supporting the tombola which featured around 60 prizes. The mystery prize, which turned out to be a large jar of pickled onions, was won by Wilma Sutton who attended last year's Ball as Mayoress of Colchester. Whilst she is not keen on them, husband Terry loves them! Peter DuffieldAnd who should win the very generous prize in a separate raffle for a year's supply of fish and chips donated by David and Lisa Henley of Henley's Fish and Chips in Vine Parade but Carol Green, who helped husband Brian Green run the fish and chip shop in East Street. See picture below.

Amongst the many people attending the Ball were Peter and Di Duffield, stalwarts of the Wivenhoe Allotment & Garden Association and regulars at the Ball. They thought they would have to give up their tickets to what is always a very good night because of Peter's hip operation. However he was there just 5 days after coming out of hospital. You cannot keep a good man down!
