                                                                                      Free Environmental Film Screenings

Residents in Wivenhoe and beyond are being offered the chance to watch a series of environmental films, mostly free of charge, as part of the new Transition Wivenhoe project.

Transition group member, Jo Wheatley, said

'Even if climate change, global peak oil and energy insecurity were not serious issues,  over consumption of the earth's natural resources is a massive problem. If everyone in the world lived like the average European we'd need several planets to sustain this way of life, and many more planets if we all lived an American lifestyle! By coming together as communities we can share the practical learning involved in moving towards a lower energy and more resilient, and probably healthier and happier, way of life.'

Communities across the UK and around the world are joining the Transition movement.  Typical activities include growing more food locally, small scale renewable energy and launching local currencies to strengthen the local economy.. Another important focus is about re-building the resilience that communities once had in greater abundance when people had a wider range of practical skills and knowledge that meant greater independence and more thriving communities.
