| Remembrance Day in Wivenhoe - 11th
November 2007
The weather was unsettled earlier in the day and indeed a little rain
fell at lunch-time, but the weather cleared and, although chilly, it was
bright for Wivenhoe's Remembrance Day events which attracted the biggest
turnout of people ever.
The collection for the British Legion was aided by the 5th Wivenhoe
Brownies whose sponsored silence raised £416 and 4th Wivenhoe Brownies
who raised £160. A collection at the Young People's Act of Remembrance
raised a further £78.

a parade comprising the Wivenhoe Mayor, local Councillors, British
Legion members and others from the Congregational Church to St
Mary's where this year's service was held. |

Remembrance Service was held in St Mary's, the Young People's Act of
Remembrance took place in the William Loveless Hall which was
full. |

as well as the Beavers, pictured, each took it in turns to present
prayers, poems, and pictures to represent their thoughts about war.
We were also reminded just how many conflicts there have been in the
last century apart from the two World Wars. |

Poems and thoughts from the Young People's Act of Remembrance:

War is bad
I think its sad
When people die
It makes me cry
I think people are brave
Because they save our lives and many others
Like sisters and young children’s brothers
They fight for hours, even days
God save people from their wicked ways
Poppies are great and red
They symbolise the people who are dead
For their died in a field
With God there like a shield.

A Peace Poem
Poppies are red, soldiers are dead
But we still remember them in our head
Even though they may be dead.
I wish I could stop the wars.
I wish we could have peace and people wouldn’t
break any laws
At Brownies we got sponsored to be silent
for an hour.
It’s quite hard to be silent for an hour, but the good
thing is, all the money goes to the poppy appeal and
some of it helps the soldiers hurt in the war.

War makes me feel scared and sorry for
the people that are fighting right this second.
I feel sad for people that were related to or were friends of
people that have died in wars.
I hope all the Prime Ministers, Presidents and the Councils
will get together and try to stop wars between the whole
world.
Peace makes me happy
Wars don’t!
When wars happen children some times have
to evacuate from their homes.
The only people who care are their families and I think that
everyone should care.
I think that the only reason people fight is they want to
prove that they are the better country, but they are only
proving that they are selfish and they don’t care about
others.
Poppies are a good sign to show you are
sad about the people who have died in wars.
Wear your poppy and show your respect for the people who
fought for everyone.
