Wivenhoe's new community mini-bus.
Wivenhoe's latest community
mini-bus was unveiled by Cllr. Penny Kraft, Chairman of Wivenhoe Town
Council’s Mini-Bus Committee and Town Mayor Cllr Peter Hill on Saturday,
4th December in front of a crowd of Councillors, drivers and people
involved with the running of it generally.
The new bus, is a 14-seater
Renault Master and boasts an internal hydraulic lift, a boon for
wheelchair users, and is compliant with the latest seat-belt
regulations.
The Town Council is extremely
pleased with the new bus, made possible from a successful bid for funding
from Colchester Borough Council’s
Parish Councils Grant Scheme, various fund-raising events held in the town
and donations in memory of the late Cllrs. Bob Richardson and Richard
Davies, both former Mayors of Wivenhoe.
Cllr. Peter Hill, Town Mayor of
Wivenhoe said “The
second bus had served us proud. Since we bought it in 1998, it has been
well-used, covering 60,000 miles. We are grateful to the Borough Council
for their contribution and to everyone else who has generously
donated towards it”.
The Wivenhoe ‘Communty’ Bus is
driven regularly around the town by volunteers, transporting the elderly
to and from various clubs. The
cost of running of the bus is offset by other users, who make a donation
when they use the bus. It can be
hired from the Town Council by local organisations, and by residents for
private occasions. Drivers
must be
aged over 25 and with a 'clean' driving licence.
The
first bus was bought in 1995 after years of fund-raising by the Mayor's
Charity Fund.
