June 2007: Public Open Space Opposite Millfields School

The open space opposite Millfields School is owned and managed by Elmstead Parish Council.

Wivenhoe Town Council understands that Elmstead Parish Council has decided to manage it is as a site for conservation and wildlife. They intend to mow it once a year only, in July. We understand they have no plans to close mow around the perimeter or to cut any pathways through the long grass.

If you have any queries about this land, the telephone number for Elmstead Parish Council is 01206 827139.

UPDATE - 18th July 2007

Elmstead Parish Council has today advised Wivenhoe Town Council that they have arranged for a contractor to cut the grass opposite Millfields School as soon as possible, as the weather permits.  They hope this will be carried cut very soon although they do not have an exact date.

At its recent meeting, the Parish Council has agreed to cut the grass this time and then maintain the grass at a height of 4 - 6" which they estimate will involve three or four cuts a year.  This will have to be regularly monitored to ensure the grass does not grow to its current height.
