May 2004 - Wivenhoe Town CouncilMrs Margaret Davies

At the Wivenhoe Town Council meeting held on Monday 17th May, Councillors decided to co-opt Mrs Margaret Davies to fill the vacancy created by the death of her husband, Cllr Richard Davies, earlier this year.

The Council had received applications from 4 Wivenhoe residents for the vacancy. In consequence the candidates had all been invited to meet members of the Council a week previously for an interview.

Former Town Mayor, Jan RichardsonCouncillors also learnt of the retirement from the Council of Mrs Jan Richardson who had been elected to the Council in 1995 and had been Town Mayor in 1997/98. Town Councillors together with Ward and County Cllrs present joined in warm tribute to the contribution of Jan Richardson during her nine years on the Council.

The vacancy caused by Mrs Jan Richardson's departure has been notified to the Returning Officer in Colchester, Mrs Andrea Hill, and if an election was not called for, the vacancy would be filled by co-option. Presuming an election is not requested, residents expressing an interest to serve on the Council until 2008 should notify the Wivenhoe Town Clerk by 14th June of that interest. Councillors agreed they would like to co-opt someone at the Town Council meeting on 21 June. Councillors hoped the people who had put their names forward for the earlier vacancy would remain interested as they had all been people who had excellent qualities and capability of being good councillors.
