September 2008 - Celebrated Caribbean poet, playwright, essayist, and visual artist, Derek Walcott is to be presented with an honorary doctorate by the University at a special event on the Colchester Campus on Saturday 4th October 2008.

Celebrated
Caribbean poet, playwright, essayist, and visual artist, Derek Walcott, will be in conversation with Professor Marina Warner and Dr Maria Cristina Fumagalli of the Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies (LiFTS); and will then give a reading from his work.

The event will open with the presentation of an honorary doctorate to Derek Walcott by the University in a ceremony presided by the Chancellor, Lord Phillips of
Sudbury .

Tickets for the event are priced at £10 (£5 for concessions) and are available from the Mercury Theatre Box Office, ticket hotline: 01206 573948 (Monday to Saturday,
10am-8pm ).
