Theatre announce the 2006 production will be "Alice’s
Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll/Clemence Dane.
The Director will be Holli Dillon who is very experienced member of
the Youth Theatre. Auditions are on Sunday

After the success last
year of Isabel Evans and Kath Jones gaining places in the National
Youth Theatre, this year Holli Dillon has also been offered a
place for this summer's National Youth Theatre workshop. |
| November 2004 |
Wivenhoe Youth Theatre took
their production of Roald Dahl’s charming children’s story, The
BFG to the Brantham Festival on Friday 5th
November. Adapted by
children’s playwright David Wood, the play needed every ounce of
this inventive group’s ingenuity to bring to the stage an
assortment of giants, flying dreams, a helicopter and the Queen of
England. With simple but effective use of props and sound effects, the
group created the story to a delighted audience, winning four
awards, and six other nominations.
Both the leading players: Natalie Kernan as Sophie
(also operating a rag doll version of herself as a puppet) and Sam
Belcher as the eponymous Big Friendly Giant, were nominated for
the Best Young actor award, which Sam won in the end.
The group and their director Holli Dillon won the
“Fresh Produce” award for their inventive staging, and the Youth
Shield for their group work, while Sheila Foster, who runs
the group, was given the Adjudicator’s award for her work with the
Youth Theatre and for encouraging them to direct their own work. |

The Mercury Youth
Theatre Wivenhoe to be launched on 13th November
Budding actors in the Wivenhoe area could find
themselves taking the first step on the ladder to stardom when the Mercury
Theatre launches its new Mercury Youth Theatre Wivenhoe on Thursday,
November 13.
The new group will be based around a core of young
people who take part in the Wivenhoe Youth Theatre Summer School with
Sheila Foster from Essex University. It is open to 13 to 17 year olds and
will meet each Thursday from 7pm until 9pm.
Application will be on a first come first served basis

The Mercury currently has a two-year waiting list for
its existing youth theatres.
This year alone Mercury Youth Theatre member Joel Sams
has been accepted to study drama at the Guildhall School and youth theatre
members appeared in the Mercury Theatre Company's productions of The White
Devil and Three Sisters. The Mercury's pantomime Cinderella will also
feature youth theatre members.

the Wivenhoe Youth Theatre:

For the past ten years young actors, local to Wivenhoe have taken
part in a summer workshop in
the Wivenhoe Youth Centre.
Wivenhoe Youth Theatre is always looking for new members, so if you
think this sounds like the type of fun you would like to be part of
then please feel welcome to give us a call. No experience is needed
so as long as you are 12-21 years old and have a love or longing to
act and do backstage work as well, then you will be very welcome! If
you are not stage struck and would just like to gain experience in
backstage work then come along as well, because acting is not
compulsory!
