August 2007 - Wivenhoe Youth Theatre Summer Production

Dear All,

I’m currently co-directing (along with Leanne Nagle and Hannah Saxon) a play called “Bed” written by the playwright Jim Cartwright, with the Wivenhoe
Youth Theatre – a very talented group. It’s all volunteer work.

We have two weeks to do everything, from acting, constructing and putting up the set, publicity, prop making, costume etc and we work our butts off for the whole two weeks! And we think it’s really important we have a good audience to perform to at the end. It would make everyone feel all the hard work was worth it. So we would all really appreciate it if you could support us and come see the show. Note - the play is written for adults.

The dates are:

23rd, 24th and 25th of August - that’s next week Thursday, Friday and Saturday

It will be shown in Wivenhoe at the Philip Road Centre.

Tickets can be bought from Wivenhoe Londis and Red Lion bookshop in Colchester.

They only cost £6 (this money doesn’t go to us, it goes to funding next year's production).

Just thought I’d let you know.
Would love your support.
Please feel free to mention this to other people who might be interested
Thank you!

Synopsis:
Seven elderly people share a vast bed, to dream, remember and reflect on a long past. The play, with a running time of 90 minutes, was acclaimed at the Royal National Theatre. 'Cartwright writes better about old people than anyone I know, except perhaps Beckett. This is an odd, harrowing and hilarious piece, entirely without sentimentality, sturdy but moving.' Sunday Times. 'Sophisticated of structure and mature in content ... brims with the confidence of a craftsman who can work as happily with surrealism as naturalism ...' City Limits.

The play is also described as a comedy.
