What’s
the Wivenhoe Society all about?
The
Wivenhoe Society aims to ensure the town remains a
pleasant place in which to live and work.
For example, we monitor planning applications
and, when appropriate, lodge our observations with the
planning authority.
Our voice is heard, but perhaps not listened to
as often as we should like!
We
organise a variety of social and cultural events (see
above), some of which perform the secondary role of
raising money for local good causes, but we also roll up
our sleeves from time to time and tidy up grotty areas,
such as the wasteland between the start of the Wivenhoe
Trail and the railway embankment, which we weeded,
cleared of rubbish and planted with shrubs in 2006 and
have since maintained.
And of course we organise two major litter-picks
each year along the riverbank.
We are urgently in need of a
volunteer to act as our Honorary Secretary, but also
need members to take a more active part, either by
joining the committee or by helping out with events,
such as running our stall for a couple of hours at Art
on the Railings.
Why not join us?
The annual subscription has been maintained at
the same low level for more than a decade: still only £8.00
for family membership, with reductions for singles and
others. See
above for contact details of Membership Secretary.
