5th October, 2003 - Biggest turnout to clear rubbish from banks of River Colne.

There was a magnificent turn-out of at least 25 people to join in the Wivenhoe Society's autumn river-bank clear-up on Sunday 5th October.

Tom Roberts, Hon Secretary said "Warm thanks to all those stalwarts who came to help the Wivenhoe Society and especially to the Town Council's groundsman, Andy, who agreed at very short notice to drive the Land Rover.

Thanks to Chairman Dave Harrrison's efforts to publicise the clear-up this time, this is the largest number we have had since we were helped by almost a whole troop of scouts a few years ago.

Because of this turn-out, we reached areas uncleared for some considerable time, but nevertheless only just filled the usual 6-cubic-metre skip.  I take this as a sign that we are winning and that the Colne is gradually becoming less litter-clogged."

NOTE: The next clear-up will be in March or April 2004.
