10th September, 2005 - Wivenhoe Watercolour Challenge

FOSM's annual Watercolour Challenge was held on Saturday 10th September to coincide with the Wivenhoe Society's Fun Weekend and WAGA's Wivenhoe Show.

The competition used the Scout & Guide Hall as its base this year, offering paintings for sale as well as refreshments. With uncertain weather conditions, some of the artists chose to paint inside too.

Once again competition prizes were generously donated by Gordon Levett of Trinity Galleries, Colchester and local art and gift retailers Cutting Corners (which moved into the Wivenhoe Business Centre this summer) will be framing the winning picture.

Judge for this year's competition was art tutor Frank Baker (photo: middle right). Amongst the competitors were Jo Hunter (below left) who is also known for painting the most wonderful back drops for the Wivenhoe Gilbert & Sullivan Society; Margaret Barker who produces delightful watercolour paintings (below right); Peter Kennedy, who is Arts Editor for Wivenhoe News (middle left). The event was organised by Bill Heslop, who filled in his time whilst waiting all for the competitors to finish at 5pm by painting some vegetables. Bottom right is Jane Cole 'manning' the FOSM stall.
