The Wivenhoe Watercolour Challenge 2003 held this year on Saturday, 23rd August 2003.
People were able to wander around Wivenhoe and find the artists tucked
away in various corners, or enjoy St Mary's Church and have a cup of tea
and piece of cake. Results:
1st prize: Ron Pardy of Tiptree, regular competitor, 1st time winner with picture of West
Street (see picture right).
2nd Prize: Mike Weldon of Lexden, new entrant - painted an old Barrel at end of
Ferry Road.
3rd prize: Jo Hunter, who has competed in most Challenges. Smashing picture of the gate and sea wall from Wivenhoe Sailing Club.
Children were all from Bravin family, Colchester. They arrived without materials and worked with the pencils used to amuse youngsters in Sunday church
services. 12-15 winner was William, 12, who did two drawings of the Bookshop corner and a
flower sketch in colour. 9-11 winner was Elizabeth, 10, who drew the Falcon Lodge house. 5-8 winner was Richard, 6, and he drew a lovely green tree in the
Churchyard. No doubt all three would be delighted with their prizes of Art Materials from Trinity Galleries and Cutting
Corners. Congratulations to all entrants for a very high standard this year and a difficult judging choice for myself.
Whilst the attendance was down on last year, it was a fine and enjoyable day for artists and visitors to St. Mary's church and the Town.
The event resulted in a donation of about £94 to church funds. Bill
