| July 2004 - The Wivenhoe Open-Air Shakespeare Society
The garden of Ted and Hallie Palmer was a delightful setting for
Twelfth Night, the third open-air production by the Wivenhoe Open-Air
Shakespeare Society. Audiences were enchanted by the whole quality
of the performance during the week from Wednesday 30th June to Saturday
3rd July 2004.
A very strong performance by the whole cast of some 24 people, backed
up by a team of over 30 people, created a memorable experience. Shelia
Foster, the visionary force behind the Wivenhoe Open-Air Shakespeare
Society, successfully inspired her team to achieve something which she
clearly had in her mind well before they knew what was in store for them.
The fact that many of the performers were more used to pantomime or
Gilbert and Sullivan shows was irrelevant. They all appeared very
comfortable in their Shakespearian parts. The trees, and pathways between,
were skillfully used to bring on the performers from different quarters.
The two halves flowed smoothly with activity, colour and much humour that
Shakespeare manages to weave into his elaborate plots.
The actors and everybody involved can, or should, be extremely proud of
themselves right now. Well done all of you, an thank you. You all
must have all worked extremely hard to produce the quality we all admired
and enjoyed.
