The latest work by north eastern poet, Katrina Porteous is to be launched in Wivenhoe this month.  “ The Blue Lonnen” , published by  the local Jardine Press, and illustrated by Wivenhoe-based artist James Dodds, will be read by Katrina at this month’s “poetrywivenhoe” event. This takes place at 8.00pm at the Congregational Hall, High Street Wivenhoe on  Friday 22nd February 2008.

Katrina Porteous is a poet, historian and broadcaster. Her particular interests include the inshore fishing community of the Northumberland coast, and the cultural and natural history of that area.

Her poetry has won many national awards, including in the last few years  a Gregory Award  and an Arts Foundation Award  Katrina’s first major collection, The Lost Music (Bloodaxe 1996), concentrated on the Northumbrian fishing community. Since then she’s travelled with her work far and wide. Recently she read at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Nevada . She has worked previously with James Dodds, in her last work Longshore Drift

The Times has described her as “ one of the most exciting talents of the North East”. She makes a  fitting start to the 2008 season of poetry events staged by poetrywivenhoe. The group’s aim is to bring the best in live poetry to the town throughout the year,
