welcomes BBC wildlife poet, Derek Adams, on Thursday 17th May

The
successful new live poetry initiative, “ poetrywivenhoe” ,
will be welcoming BBC
Wildlife poet, Derek Adams to Wivenhoe
in May, alongside
Colchester
poet Philip Wilson..
They
will both be performing on Thursday May 17th, at The Greyhound
function room, High Street, Wivenhoe. The event starts at 8.00pm.
“poetrywivenhoe”
is an entirely voluntary community project dedicated to bringing the
best in live poetry to
North Essex. Each month national and regional poets are being invited to take
to the stage in Wivenhoe.
In April,
Martin Newell and
Mike Harwood attracted a full house for an evening of sharp, polemical and
witty verse.
Derek has already had three volumes of work published,
and has appeared in many magazines. He has often appeared on BBC Radio 4
Poetry Please, and BBC Essex. In 2006 he was selected as the BBC Wildlife
Poet of the Year.

Jamie Spracklen,
editor
of Visionary Tongue magazine says of his work, “ Derek has a huge
simmering explosion of imagery and ideas that he draws from, and they’re
present in every poem”
Robert Cole, editor of the
Colchester-based poetry magazine “ Chimera”, describes his work as, “ the real
stuff of poetry”.
Derek is supported by
Philip
Wilson. Philip successfully published
his first volume of work, “ Blessed but not broken by the Fall” at the
end of last year.

Derek Adams:
Derek
Adams has published three collections of poetry: "Unconcerned
but not indifferent - the life of Man Ray", "Everyday
Objects, Chance Remarks", and
"Postcards to Olympus". His live performances include: The
Poetry Cafe Covent Garden, The Troubadour Earls Court, Cabaret
Voltaire Colchester, The Essex Poetry Festival and The Leigh Folk
Festival. He has been broadcast on “ Poetry Please”
BBC Radio4 and BBC Essex. "As
a live performer he mixes depth and subtle humour".

Philip Wilson:
Philip
Wilson studied Modern Languages at Oxford. He lives in Colchester
and has been published in over a hundred magazines including Ambit,
Stand, Magma, The Wolf, Rialto ,Seam and Smiths Knoll. His first
collection was published this year, ”Blessed but not Broken by the
