The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

                                                                      Poetrywivenhoe- August 2009

poetrywivenhoe was launched in February 2007 with the aim of bringing quality poetry events to Wivenhoe.  Since then poetrywivenhoe has held readings and standup poetry at monthly intervals, and has played host both to poets of national repute and to local well-known and less well-known poets.  There are a lot of established writers who are keen to come and perform in Wivenhoe, but another of the aims of the organisation is to support local writers with a space to try out their work.  We have a regular "Out of the Hat" open mic slot for new talent.

poetrywivenhoe has become a regular feature in the annual Essex Poetry Festival.

In 2008 poetrywivenhoe held the successful inaugural Wivenhoe Poetry Prize Competition, and published, in association with the Wivenhoe Bookshop, a collection of new poetry: "poetrywivenhoe 2008" — available at the Bookshop or by email: wiven.book@zetnet.co.uk (ISBN 978-0-9557313-2-7).

poetrywivenhoe's standup poetry evenings are held on the fourth Thursday of the month in the upstairs room at The Greyhound, High Street, Wivenhoe.
