News from Wivenhoe Over 60s Club - July 04

Our last outing was on the 27th May when some 45 members and friends were taken on a Mystery Tour, this took them through Coggeshall, Braintree, Shalford, Finchingfield, Steeple Bumpstead and then on to Little Easton, where we enjoyed a excellent tea provided by the Easton W.I.

Friday 25th June we enjoyed a marvellous meal at the William Loveless Hall. This was provided and prepared by two of our ladies Jean Gale and Margaret Bucke. The menu consisted of New English Potatoes, Salad, Rounds of Cold Ham and Roast Beef; Fresh Strawberries and Cream; Wine or Fruit Juice as required. This was followed by a very interesting talk by Reg Jones on his life in the Household Cavalry.

Chairman Doug Stockwell presenting Ivy White with an inscribed glass rose bowl to mark her significant 12 year contribution to the Over 60s ClubIvy White:  Ivy has been our Secretary and Treasurer for the past twelve years, and during that time has worked tirelessly for the club, being largely responsible in the early years, for keeping it going, and lately, making it as successful as it is.

Two years ago Denise Smith was appointed as our Secretary, and at the AGM this year, Diane Duffield was appointed our Treasurer, Ivy having stated her wish to relinquish both offices.

During a subsequent meeting, in appreciation of Ivy’s commitment to the Club over those years, the Chairman presented her with a suitably inscribed Cut Glass Rose Bowl.

Crockery Fund:- Thanks to the generosity of the members and to the Jonathan Feedham Charity, this project has been completed and we now have our own Crockery and Cutlery.

The old Burco Boiler at the William Loveless has been proving to be very temperamental of late, the Club has purchased a new Burco Boiler for use by all users of the William Loveless Hall.
