The Club was started in 1951 and in 2001 we celebrated our fiftieth
anniversary by giving every member an anniversary mug at a celebration dinner.
The club is as the name suggests for those members of the Wivenhoe community over sixty years old.
Its purpose is to provide a location and atmosphere where by older people of the town can come together and enjoy a friendly two or three hours with their friends.
We have a membership of around fifty people, many of whom have been in the club for fifteen or more
years. We would therefore welcome new members, particularly those who have recently retired.

All new members are welcome, particularly those who have recently retired and have their own transport. For those who wish to join us but do not have transport and cannot get to the William Loveless Hall, there is the possibility of
using the Communty bus. New members please contact Doreen Everitt 01206 823308. or just turn up at our Friday meeting. |
Latest News:
Denise Smith has had to retire from being Secretary after 6 years due to
ill-health. At the meeting on 21st July, Denise was presented with a very
nice Orchid plant complete with bowl.
Mrs Doreen Everitt has volunteered to take over. (Mrs Doreen Everitt, 27,
Vine Farm Road
, Wivenhoe. Tel: 01206 824554)
.
Our fortnightly meetings are still well attended, with forty five to
fifty five members present. Every other month we have a lunch at the
William Loveless provided by Jean Gale and her helpers, our next being
the18th August when we celebrate the clubs Fifty Fifth year.
The next outing will be on 20th September, an afternoon ride through
North Essex finishing at
West Bergholt
, where the WI will provide tea.
My usual plea for new younger members to join, we shall very quickly be
reaching the stage where our present loyal helpers will not physically be
capable of giving assistance.
For instance our Vice Chairman Georgie Love celebrates his 90th
Birthday on 23rd August. Five of our committee of six are eighty or over,
and still going strong, but there will come a time when we will need
younger members to take the responsibilities of running the club.
