The Charity was merged with Mary Ann Sanford Almshouses on 1st January 2002 to form the Wivenhoe Housing Trust with the purpose of managing Wivenhoe's 13 almshouses. The JST's first vessel, Lord Nelson, was built in Wivenhoe and launched in 1985. With her new sister ship the Tenacious, the JST provides adventure sailing for people aged 16 to 70+, including for people with physical disabilities. Click here for more details.

Following a merger with Brightlingsea Badminton Club, the adult badminton club is now known as the Marina Badminton Club. May Fair Committee

With many members in Wivenhoe, Colchester has a National Trust Centre.  National Trust Centres are local groups run voluntarily by National Trust members.  They exist to support the work of the National Trust in preserving places of historic interest and natural beauty. 

Membership of the Centre is open to National Trust members. Membership gives you the opportunity of meeting other National Trust members as well as taking part in the extensive range of activities organised by the Centre.

The 'Nottage' as most people simply refer to it is a fantastic place for learning about boat-building and nautical skills. It also houses a remarkable collection of memorabilia relating to the River Colne. It is usually open to visitors during the summer months, on Sundays. Go to their web-site for more details. Launched in early 2007, "poetrywivenhoe" is committed to bringing quality poetry events to Wivenhoe and aims.  “poetrywivenhoe” aims to stage events every month. Another aim is to support local budding writers with a space to try out their work. Most of the monthly events will have an “open mic” space for new talent.

The Quay Quilters meet in the Wm Loveless Hall every 2nd Monday of each month between 10.00 to 4pm or what ever times you want! Share ideas about patchwork and quilting. Occasional professional workshops. Annual membership is £5 and £2.50 per session charge to cover costs. Membership of around 60 people. No particular skill necessary. The aim of the Association is to unite residents in a common effort to protect and enhance the conservation area that comprises Queens Road and its immediate neighbourhood. Our objectives are 'to bring pressure to bear to support the closure of Queens Road; to consider ways in which we can enhance our immediate neighbourhood; to foster a community spirit and set up a community support network'. The ShipYard Project  (disbanded 2002)                                                       
This was a group of people who had a go at trying to acquire Cook's Shipyard as community asset before it became a residential development site. Since disbanded, after the Shipyard was acquired by Lexden Restorations in 2002 and later sold to Taylor Woodrow.

The Monday Club
Meets at the Scout & Guide Hall on Monday's between 1.15pm - 3.45 pm for people over 60 years of age (active only - no facilities for immobility). The cost is 50p each meeting, and the aim to provide social afternoons and get togethers - darts, cards, dominoes and bingo.

We are Folk Dancers who do a wide variety of dancing from 17th Century Playford to Modern American Squares. We meet at the Wivenhoe Congregational Church Hall every Thursday, 8.00 -10.00 pm. U3A - University of the Third Age

Educational and social activities for people who have retired. Founded July 1985. Met originally at the University.  General meetings now take place at Highwoods Community Centre. Around 360 members overall. Self help groups meet various parts of Colchester Borough.

Art History. A tutored group of people who've been meeting since 1992. Meeting 2nd Thursday in each month. Numbers limited and presently full.

The principal aim of WORC and its members is to have fun through various social events organised throughout the year as well as through a regular social lunch-time once a month at the bar upstairs in the British Legion Hall on the Quay. It is also dedicated to support the Wivenhoe Branch of the Royal British Legion. Launched in 2004, the project team, led by Paul Thompson set out to capture the memories of a great many Wivenhoe people and publish a book of their interviews. They achieved their objective at the end of 2006 having interviewed 190 people. A book and DVD were published. An association with a large membership and a committee that concerns itself with aspects of Wivenhoe, particularly in planning matters. The Committee has increasingly become more active in running various events and talks in Wivenhoe.

There is a Junior Play session between 10 am and 1 pm Saturdays. Public access to the courts is available on a 'pay and play' basis via the Londis supermarket, Vine Parade, Wivenhoe.

This Association was formed in 2002 to run an Annual Regatta but the Association folded in 2005 and it no longer exists. In 2006, the Nottage Maritime Institute agreed to organise the Regatta in the future.

Wivenhoe Wordsmiths                                                     
A public speaking club presently building a membership in Wivenhoe. This group is a member of Toastmasters International, a world wide organisation designed to enhance both communication and leadership skills. Meetings are currently organised by members of Camulodunum Speakers Club which has operated in Colchester for over 21 years. Wivenhoe Wordsmiths are meeting at the British Legion Hall on 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7.30 pm, finishing at 10.00pm.

Members of the Youth Theatre group are aged between 12 and 21. Each year the group performs a play at the Wivenhoe Centre.  The play is organised, rehearsed and performed during August. People are also required who would like to assist back stage in various capacities. If you are interested in getting involved, then contact Hilary Lazell.

Approx 50 members interested in sailing and preserving the local Wivenhoe One Design class, based at Wivenhoe Sailing Club. The Wivenhoe One Design's were designed by local doctor, Dr Walter Radcliffe, in 1935.

Wyvenford Trefoil Guild
The Trefoil Guild exists to provide friendship through a range of activities. It aims to maintain a close link with Guiding and to support local units. Trefoil Guild is open to all who are, or have been members of the Guiding movement, as a Brownie or upwards.  Occasional outings and a monthly meeting, often with a guest speaker.  

Meetings at the Scout and Guide Hall at 8 pm on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, except August and December.
