Wivenhoe Open Gardens

Open Gardens Weekend – 20/ 21st June 2009

Following another successful Open Gardens in 2008, the Wivenhoe Society and St Mary’s Church are planning the Open Gardens weekend for 2009 and we are writing to ask if you would be willing to support us again by opening your garden to the public on 20th and 21st June.  As the number of gardens opening has raised we have decided to ask gardeners to open from 11a.m, but close at 5 p.m. to give the members of the public more time to visit the gardens.  We also hope to offer ploughman’s lunches, possibly in St Mary’s church and churchyard on both days.

If you decide to open, we will need a brief description of your garden for the programme, but if your garden has been open in previous years we will use the one we had then, unless you tell us otherwise.

There is a great deal of interest nowadays in eco-friendly gardening and we would like to emphasize this in the programme by indicating where ‘green’ is more than a colour, so please let us know if you are, for example, gardening organically, harvesting rainwater, composting etc.

As in previous years, the money raised over the weekend will be split between St Mary’s Church and the Wivenhoe Society – who will donate their share to local charities, to be announced at a later date.

If you would be interested in participating in 2009, please get in contact if possible by the end of January, but in any case by 25th April 2009 , as after that date we will not be able to alter the programme.
