and

THE WASHBOARD SYNCOPATORS

Jim Diebel

The Washboard Syncopators jazz band was originally formed in the 1950s as a skiffle group playing jazz with emphasis on the washboard, piano and vocals.

From that basis, a seven-piece band developed which has performed regularly to this day in venues in the south of England . The current band features trumpet, reeds, trombone, piano, banjo, bass, washboard and drums.

The character of the Washboard Syncopators has developed largely by being able to ignore commercial pressures, and has attracted a wide following which is appreciative of the distinctive Washboard Syncopators sound.

The Washboard Syncopators have absorbed the influences which have contributed to good jazz through the ‘20s and ’30s to produce an individual sound of variety and interest, which is enjoyed by those who listen or dance as much as by those in the band who play the music.
