The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

From Gill Strudwick, Chairman, Friends of St. Mary's

1. There is a Christmas Coffee Morning next Saturday 13th November 9.30 to 12 noon. There will a good variety of Christmas things to buy including food gifts from 'Party Pieces', Books from the Wivenhoe Book Shop, Cakes, Wivenhoe designs including a new Peg Bag and coloured 'wild-life' tea-towels, Webb Ivory Christmas things and a Raffle with good prizes. There will be a Lucky-dip tub and guessing games for children. In St Mary's Church 9.30 -12 noon. Admission 50p.

2.  Our new colour printed Christmas card will be on sale at the Coffee Morning or if you can't make it on Saturday, you can order them from me - Gill Strudwick on 822289. The colour picture is of Wivenhoe Quay with a sprinkling of snow, taken from Rowhedge by Joe Windley; and professionally printed. The cards come in a pack of three with envelopes for £1.00.

3. Recently I applied to the Co-op for FOSM to belong to their Community Dividend Card Scheme, and we've now been accepted. Next Saturday at the Coffee Morning I will be giving out dividend cards to members and anyone else who would like one, so that they can register and use them at any local store or petrol station. 'Every little helps' will be our motto, as we hope that by everyone contributing a little dividend we will help raise funds for the Friends of St. Mary's and so achieve our aims. For more information, see below.

4. Finally FOSM is urgently looking for a treasurer as Eugene Kraft is retiring at Christmas. Please can anyone help us. The job requires a couple of hours work every month. Anyone with book-keeping skills would be welcome to help us.

Launch of the FOSM 'Every Little Helps' Co-op Community Dividend Card

FOSM has been given an exciting new fund-raising opportunity the Colchester & East Essex Co-operative Society Limited. When I took over as Chairman I applied to the board for our charity to benefit from the Co-op Community Dividend Scheme. We recently we were approved and given a share number [179320].

Each time you use this card our charity benefits from the dividend that accumulates. Small amounts of dividend collectively mount up to larger amounts, so in this way we can work together to achieve our aims as 'Friends of St. Mary's Church', Wivenhoe.

To join the scheme and help us, you will need to register on a form, and return the form to the Co-op in an enclosed pre-paid envelope. You sign and keep the card ready to use. 'Every little helps'. This scheme costs you nothing!

Many people do not have a dividend card but you might be a person who does already have your own card, don't worry, why not use our card occasionally? 'Every little helps'.

Your friends, family and any person you know, may also support St. Mary's Church by applying for a card, providing they register. Additional cards & registration forms are available from me, Gill Strudwick, on request. The more people we get participating, the more money we raise. Our organisation could raise over £1,000 a year. It costs you nothing, just remember to register, sign your card and take it with you, every time you go to a Co-op store or petrol station in this area. 'Every little helps'. Thank you for your help.
