The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

The Wivenhoe Folk Club has been meeting at The Greyhound in Wivenhoe High Street since 5th March, 1992.

The Club, which is no-smoking and largely acoustic, meets on the first Thursday of every month, with occasional special 'extra Thursdays'.

The booked guests are nationally known and often internationally known artistes; floor spots by local and near-local performers are always welcomed.  It's best to 'phone MC Brian Ford in advance (01206 823877) to book a floorspot as we get a lot of people!

Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Admission on guests nights varies - ranging from £5, with concessions £4, sometimes a little more, depending on the booked guest; floor singers get in free. On Singaround nights, admission for non-performers is £2.

For free lifelong membership of the Folk Club, telephone Denise on 01206 827759 at least 48 hours before the event. Contact Denise also for guest bookings and other queries. Joan Gifford - in disguise

For 'floor spots' contact Brian on 01206 823877.

Joan Gifford, of course is still involved with the club - don't miss her wonderful floor spots!

TeaTime Assortment

'TeaTime Assortment' are a Wivenhoe acoustic trio with a real assortment of music – from bluesy-jazzy sounds to traditional and contemporary folk, from standard ballads to original material. The band consists of vocalist Denise Bidewell, Lola Barnes on flute and harmony vocals and Alan Van Loen providing the guitar & harmonicas. They play at many folk clubs in the region and have become the ‘house band’ at Wivenhoe Folk Club. You can hear tracks from their CD, ‘TeaTime At Tom’s’ on their Myspace site.
