September 2007 - Wivenhoe Crabbing Competition

Once again the waters edge along West Quay and quay towards Cooks Shipyard was lined by people trying to catch the largest crab out of the waters of the River Colne. This annual event doesn't seem to do the crabs any harm as there were as many as ever willing to bite onto a bacon rind or whatever was offered to them!

The event raised £900 from registration fees and donations. This money is being shared between Wivenhoe's three schools and also to help support an Ethiopian orphanage charity run by Wivenhoe resident.

Prize-winners: Left to right, 3rd prize Charlotte Horton of Rowhedge, 1st prize William Proudfoot of Alresford and Isabelle Hasler-Davis of Wivenhoe with her friend who helped and therefore shared the prize.
