May 2005 - An update from 1st Wivenhoe Scouts

Having been through a wholesale change of leadership in the past eight months, 1st Wivenhoe Scouts is beginning to show signs of returning to a healthy sized active troop.

With only one existing scout in October 2004, the troop now has two patrols of 5, Kestral and Cobra, with the one existing scout now being our SPL. A new intake of cubs is expected in September 05 that should bring the troop numbers to around 14.

Under the careful guidance of experienced Scouter Rikki Talbot, Pete Connery and Phil Osborne, who are both new to the scout leadership team following their introduction through cubs, have put together an ambitious summer programme to start developing the skills required to take these very young Scouts (10 - 14 years) through to Explorer Scouts.

The summer programme gives the scouts the opportunity of achieving two challenge awards, CREATIVE and ADVENTURE and will teach them scouting skills such as NAVIGATION, KNOTS, FIRE LIGHTING, BACK WOODS COOKING and SURVIVAL SKILLS through gaining activity badges along the way.
