Hotch Potch No. 13 - The Baker's Dozen

Saturday, 12th April, 2003 in the William Loveless Hall, Wivenhoe - matinee and evening performances.

Youngsters from the various Units belonging to the Wivenhoe Scout & Guide Association staged another very successful Hotch Potch before two full audiences, of almost 300 people, including Town Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr David Craze and Mrs  Angela Craze, and various other invited guests, entertaining them with a wide variety of songs, sketches and dance routines.

The Scouts produced a well-performed play in two parts that could become the basis for another Harry Potter book; some of the Guides showed how to turn discarded items into fashion clothes whilst other guides created an imaginative play based on the television cartoon series, the Rugrats.

The Beavers, Rainbow Guides and three lots of Brownies produced a number of carefully rehearsed performances which did them and their parents proud.

Over 100 youngsters took part in the two hour show, including members of the Explorer Scouts who, with their band Manoverboard, gave their very first public performance.

Both audiences gave everybody plenty of applause and also readily joined in with the singing when required. Ceri Murray led the Finale singalong with a  stage well-packed with all the performers who all looked as though they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Some presentations were made at the end of the evening performance. Duncan Brisk was presented with his Chief Scouts Award by Scout Leader Darrin Keeble. Retiring leader Penny Mount was presented with gifts by both Peter Hill, Chairman of the  Scout and Guide Association and Lorraine Pemberton, Guiding District Commissioner.

With news that Dave Sleightholm was giving up lighting any more shows in Wivenhoe, having done so many shows for so many groups over more than 25 years, including all 13 Hotch Potches, on behalf of everybody who has ever been involved in Hotch Potch, Darrin Keeble and Lorraine Pemberton presented Dave with very well-earned Scouting and Guiding Entertainer badges for all of his wonderful support and efforts, whilst Peter Hill gave him something he could enjoy drinking!
