The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

Tickets for the Wivenhoe Gilbert & Sullivan Society's 2003 production of the 'The Sorcerer' sold fast.

The Society once again used the William Loveless Hall to entertain Wivenhoe with one of Gilbert and Sullivan's earliest collaborations, The Sorcerer. This was their first full length operetta, first produced in 1877, and has much to commend it.

Performed once before by the Society, in 1991, it was much enjoyed then and featured Stephen Hardie in one of his last performances with the Wivenhoe Gilbert & Sullivan Society before leaving Wivenhoe to take up new duties in the Harwich and Dovercourt area for his Church.

The Society updated the production, with a setting based in the 1960s. It involves a love potion slipped into the drinks at a village tea party with hilarious results, lovely costumes, a bright set and some great acting & singing of some memorable music.

Performances were Tues 18th - Saturday 22nd March, 2003.
