| August 2007 - WEA Wivenhoe Branch
Are you interested in Adult Education?
Well, now there’s an opportunity to get really
involved with the WEA, which has a long and proud history in Wivenhoe.
From the 13th August, a number of key positions in this organisation are coming
vacant and volunteers are needed to continue organising the fascinating
lecture series which has been an important part of its
history.
Over the years there has been a wide range of
courses, including the History of Wivenhoe, Thames Barges, Geology,
Weather and the latest being the History of Colchester.
"Our branch is long-established in Essex and has
an excellent reputation. The range of courses have given many people in
Wivenhoe a chance to learn about subjects in a friendly environment and it
would be a shame if this couldn’t continue," said
Dave Purdey, current Secretary of the Wivenhoe branch of the WEA. "We
are, however, looking for new officers as Enid Heslop, our Treasurer and
Len Horner, our Chairman are standing down, and these positions have to be
filled if the WEA in Wivenhoe is to continue".
The next course, which starts on the 24th
September is on the history of gold and its impact on the world. The
course of ten lectures costs £40 and is held in the Methodist Hall in
Wivenhoe.
