Violinist Kelly Jones is to hold an evening of music at St. Mary’s
Church, Wivenhoe, on Saturday the 10th May, 2008.
The forthcoming event is to take place following the
violinist's research into the musicians who were forced to play
whilst being held prisoners in the Nazi concentration camps of
World War Two.
Kelly had contact
with many Holocaust survivors during her research project which has
inspired her to host the concert in memory of the countless people
who lost their lives at the hands of history’s largest case of
genocide. The concert’s aim is also to celebrate the prisoners who survived the notorious Nazi camps.
All profits raised
from this event will go towards the Film Department Project at The
Holocaust Centre in Nottingham. The charity is dedicated to
interviewing survivors about their horrific experience. All film
interviews are expensive to produce, however the centre realises the
importance of doing so for the benefit of future generations and for
the purpose of educating our youth about one of the most important
parts of the world’s history.
Programme is to
include Bach’s famous ‘Double Violin Concerto’, Bloch’s
‘Nigun’ (No.II from Baal
Shem), Arvo Part’s ‘Spiegel im Spiegal’ and the ever
popular Mozart’s ‘Quartet in C’ (‘Dissonance’), which will
be performed by the talented Scintillo String Quartet.
