2008 - A honour for Graham Wadley and St Mary's Church, Wivenhoe
Graham Wadley, Director of Music at St. Mary’s, has
recently been appointed as a Council Member for the Royal School of Church
Music. This is the Governing
Body of the organisation which provides training and support in all
aspects of Church Music, not only in the UK, but throughout the world.
Obviously this is a great honour for Graham, following
over 30 years involvement with the RSCM as a local representative and
officer of the Area Committee covering Essex and East London, as well as an honour for St Mary's Church to have its Director of Music
appointed to the Council.
His work, together with the responsibility of arranging
so much music at parish level for St. Mary’s for so many years and also
running St Mary's Singers, will be useful experience for this position on
the RSCM Council, determining policy and direction for Church Music.
The RSCM:
- has 7,000 active members and affiliates, and 1,500
supporting friends
- encouraged by 750 volunteers in the UK, Europe,
North America, Australasia and South Africa
- and is supported by a small central staff
The RSCM supports a world-wide network of 9,000
churches, schools and individuals. It is committed to achieving the best
use of good music in worship – whatever the resources, whatever the
style. Through education, training, publications, advice and
encouragement, we aim to support church music today and to invest in
church music for the future.
