3rd June, 2006 - June Market and Art on the Railings

Wivenhoe woke on the Saturday morning to find the sun shining. No cloud appeared that day, the first cloudless day in 2006 and definitely the best day so far this year.

At 7am the Churchyard started to come alive with activity as stalls started to be erected and paintings hung around the Churchyard railings. About 40 stalls filled the Churchyard, all the way around the Church and they did good business through the morning until 2.30pm when the Ken Edwards Trio finished their lunchtime session and people had eaten all the available food.

St Mary's estimate they made £2,700 from their 7 stalls, including commission from the sale of artwork which decorated the Churchyard railings. The St Mary's Fund-Raising Committee are pleased that so many local organisations will have done very well too and would like to thank the many hundreds of people or more who came to what has become more than just a fund-raising occasion. And having glorious sunshine all day, made it all the more a happy and social affair.
