Harvest Festival at St Mary's Church, Wivenhoe - October 2005

The Church had been beautifully decorated by Sylvia Usher and her team of flower arrangers for Harvest Festival Week.

On Saturday, 1st October, the Grange Co-operative Singers (see photo below) provided an evening of songs with a Harvest theme to an audience of 75 people who enjoyed the smell of the flowers, the quality of the singing and the home-made cakes afterwards.

On Sunday, 2nd October there was a crowded Family Service at Broomgrove Infants School led by Rev David Thomas, followed by Family Eucharist in St Mary's. Fruit and flowers donated at the two services are being donated to Colchester's Night Shelter and Soup Run.

Sunday evening there was a Special Songs of Praise organised jointly by the Friends of St Mary's members and Wivenhoe's Churches Together, attended by people from the Congregational and Methodist Churches.

And on Saturday evening, the following week, Satuirday 8th October, there will be a Harvest Supper with guest speaker Stuart Wilkes. Stuart, a former organ scholar at St Mary's, used Wivenhoe as his starting point on his Round Britain sponsored motor cycle ride to raise money for Leukaemia Research and the Lymphoma Association.
