Report on Art on the Railings and June Market, St Mary's Churchyard, 2005

For the first time in a long time, it rained during the day. Twice, it did so, but not enough to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowds. During one of the squally showers, it was reckoned there were 700 people packed into St Mary's Church!

People started buying from the stalls well before 9.30am when the event was due to start and continued into the mid-afternoon. The Ken Edwards Trio entertained people during the lunch-time and early afternoon, although most people opted for lunch inside the Church, it not being as warm as previous years.

Despite the weather, nearly £2,600 was raised by St Mary's Fund-Raising Committee from commissions from art sales and their stalls, beating last year's total by £300 and making this year's event a near record. Organiser Bonnie Hill is grateful for all the help she received on and before the day. The Committee were pleased also that the 30 other organisations and stall-holders also appeared to do very well.
