WIVENHOE's LATE NIGHT SHOPPING & DECEMBER MARKET 2004

THURSDAY 2nd DECEMBER from 6 .00 p.m. — 8.00 p.m.

Wivenhoe High Street is the place to be on the evening of Thursday 2nd December between 6.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. The shops in lower Wivenhoe High Street will be open and some traders will be providing consultations, glasses of mulled wine, rum punch and savories, soup, mince pies.  There will also be live music in Rollo Estate Agency's offices.

The Christmas lighting has been planned for the area and this should make the evening even more special.  Wivenhoe puts on a spectacular display thanks to a small team of volunteers working over a series of weekends dressing buildings so that when that button is pressed Wivenhoe sparkles.  If what we read in the newspapers is correct then Wivenhoe High Street will definitely outshine that of Colchester High Street this year and is more than ever before a place to bring the children either on late night shopping evening or any evening until the New Year.

Thanks to the Rotary Club of Brightlingsea, Santa will again be travelling down the High Street and will be there on his sleigh for the duration of the evening.  This year, departing from tradition, our Member of Parliament, Bernard Jenkin will turn on the Christmas Lights at exactly 6.00 p.m.  Santa will be accepting letters addressed to him from children wishing to let him know what they are hoping to receive in their stockings at Christmas.  All letters need to have the name, address and age of the sender so that Santa can reply to each and everyone.  A donation of £1.00 with letters will go to charity.  The Wivenhoe Scout & Guide Association have kindly agreed to deliver the replies from Santa as part of their normal Christmas card delivery service.  So start getting the writing paper ready and start those letters to Santa he will only be in Wivenhoe for one evening so don’t miss out.

We also have returning the group of singers, “In Accord”, who will be singing carols inside St. Mary’s Church from 6.00 p.m. until 6.30 p.m. and then they will leave the Church and sing outside in the High Street to entertain passers by.  At 6.30 p.m. the Salvation Army Band from Colchester will be playing to add to the Christmas atmosphere.

Inside and outside St. Mary’s Church there will be stalls run by local organisations and charities to raise funds for good causes.  Come along and support them and perhaps find that perfect Christmas present or perhaps purchase a few mince pies or a homemade cake.

We invite everyone, especially the children to join us in Wivenhoe for a great evening.  The atmosphere during our special evening is wonderful it would be a shame to miss it.
