The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

The Wivenhoe Late Night Shopping & December Market was a great success, aided by a wonderful crisp evening and no wind!

Crowds of people came to the lower High Street, went inside St, Mary's Church and in the Churchyard. The atmosphere was wonderful with Wivenhoe Town Mayor, Cllr. David Craze arriving on the Santa sleigh (as per picture).

At 6pm, the lights were switched on by the Mayor with the help of the crowd counting down, with the wonderful ooh and aah sounds as they came to life.

The stalls run by the charities and organisations did very well and a substantial amount of money went to good causes as a result.  People were going in and out the shops too, so hopefully our local business also had a good evening.

The carol singers sang for half an hour inside Church, and then sang outside, and the Colchester Salvation Army Band played as well.

It was a brilliant evening, Wivenhoe at its best, with a superb atmosphere that makes living in our community something very special.
