The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

There was a steady flow of people around the 45 stalls and paintings from before 9.00am to mid-afternoon.

Sales of paintings were higher than ever. £2,500 was raised towards the upkeep of the Church. The Organising Committee were pleased also that the other organisations which joined in on the day did well, probably raising more than £2,000 for their own charities.

The event has become a great social and community occasion, with people appearing to enjoy the opportunity of chatting each other over some light refreshments, as well as spending money on the various stalls.

Mugs in St Mary's Churchyard !! 600 of Mayor David's Jubilee Mugs were shifted during the day, with profits going to the Queen's Jubilee Youth Trust for Wivenhoe. Selling the mugs were former Town Mayor, Cllr Mary Hignell and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Gilli Primrose. In charge of the Mayor's dog, is Bill Hignell.
