| The sun shone brightly all day for the
organisers of June Market and Art on the Railings, held annually in
St Mary's Churchyard. This year, the event was the first in a series of
occasions forming the Queen's Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
There was a steady flow of people around the 45 stalls and paintings
from before 9.00am to mid-afternoon.
Sales of paintings were higher than ever. £2,500 was raised towards
the upkeep of the Church. The Organising Committee were pleased also that
the other organisations which joined in on the day did well, probably
raising more than £2,000 for their own charities.
The event has become a great social and community occasion, with people
appearing to enjoy the opportunity of chatting each other over some light
refreshments, as well as spending money on the various stalls.
Even better when the sun shines!
