9th August, 2008 - Wivenhoe Town Regatta

It was wet on June Market and wet too for the Town Regatta. Wet pretty much all day. Quite a few people came down to The Quay though and who enjoyed the day despite the weather, but nothing like the crowd which normally fills The Quay and beyond. What a shame for the organisers who put so much effort in to make this a special day in the Wivenhoe calendar. Still, much did happen to entertain the faithful, especially on the water.

Right: A few stalwarts on the Quayside waiting for the smacks to arrive in their race up from Brightlingsea and for the annual WOD race run in sight of the Quay.

Below: The Art Exhibition in the Nottage featuring local artists, Jamie Dodds and Annie Bielecka. The Exhibition runs until September.

Right: Wivenhoe Town Mayor Cllr Frances Richards enjoying the Nottage Art Exhibition

Above: A sight not seen on the river for at least 1300 years, a replica of Viking longship, or at least a half-sized replica of the 27 metre longship buried in Sutton Hoo in Suffolk around 630 AD. She is called Sae Wylfing.

Above: New Secretary of the Wivenhoe Society, Helen Evans in charge of their stall.
