The Wivenhoe Pantomime Group will be performing Aladdin, always a
popular, traditional choice. Adapted by Lynda Edwardson from a Peter Kerr
script first used 14 years ago, (before some of the current cast were
born!)
This production has two cast members from 1993. They just wish they
could still fit into their old costumes! Most of the songs are original
and are of good mix of romantic, jolly and funny. The costumes are bright
and colourful and many have been sent from China.
Richard Edwardson plays a delightfully evil Abanazer (he will revel in
being booed). Brian Ford dons a frock as Widow Twankey and Jane Rayner
reprises her role as Genie of the Ring. Her excuse for doing the part
again is that genies are thousands of years old so she can get away with
it! There is a chorus of enthusiastic young villagers, a beautiful
princess and of course, the hero, Aladdin, played by Clare Kane.
The show runs from Tuesday 23rd till Saturday 27th January. Tickets from
Londis or the Post Office, priced £4 (£3 concessions) on Tuesday and
Wednesday and £5 for the rest of the week. The Saturday matinee is
already sold out.
