June 2007 - Teddy Bear Parachuting from St Mary's Church Tower
It's on Saturday 9th June between 2 - 4.30pm.

The event will be 'compered' by Harold Lockwood and teddy's or soft toys of all shapes and sizes are welcome to take the jump from the top of St Mary's church tower at a cost of £2 per jump.

Each teddy will get a mention as they 'leap' from the tower and will receive a certificate of bravery upon a safe landing. Age Roofing have kindly offered to collect any wayward teddies who decide to land in trees or on the church roof.

Other attractions at the church will be bouncy castles, a cake stall. refreshments, jewellery, Phoenix cards and 2 free face painters (supplied by Bryant Homes)

The event is open to everyone and any money raised will be divided between St Mary's and Millfields Primary School.

REPORT of 2007 Event:

The day was a great success, with over 200 bears taking the plunge from the top of St. Mary's church tower and receiving Certificates of Bravery.

The event raised a total of £670, which will be split between the Friends of Millfields Primary and St. Mary's Church. Thanks for the efforts of the many volunteers (registering bears, baking cakes, running the bouncy castle and the various stalls etc.), and a particular mention to Harold Lockwood, who did a sterling job as compere for the second year running. Thanks also to Bryant Homes, who provided face-painters, and Age Roofing, who were on standby to rescue any wayward bears.

At the end of the event, two orphaned soft toys were found in the churchyard: One one-eyed teddy wearing a bow tie, and a dalmatian. They're being well looked-after, but if anybody knows where they live, please call Wivenhoe 823237 so they can be reunited with their owners.
