| January 2008 - News from the
Wivenhoe Branch of the Royal British Legion
The
Branch has won the Nigel Bird County Shield for recruiting which is
awarded to a Branch without an RBL Club. Increased membership in the year was forty four members (+72%). The
presentation of the Shield was made at the RBL County Conference to the
immediate past Membership Secretary, Mr R Gladwin by the County President,
Colonel R.A. Shervington.
Mr
Roger Belsham has been elected
Branch President following the death of Mr L Punshon. Mr R Belsham has
been the Poppy Appeal Organiser for 9 years during which time, thanks to
public generosity, there has been a steady increase in the amount given
for our charitable work.
At
a Branch meeting the departure of Mr Richard Gladwin was marked by a
presentation to him by the Chair, Pastor Patrick Baxter, of a Certificate of
Appreciation for his work as a Branch Officer. The Wivenhoe Service Club
also made a presentation of a Garden token. In the presentations,
tribute was paid to him for the enormous amount of work done by him for
both organisations. Members wished Mr & Mrs Gladwin happiness in their
new home.
