| July 2008 - THE ROYAL
BRITISH LEGION, WIVENHOE - 2007 Poppy Appeal
The Wivenhoe Branch, together with the Women’s Section
of the Royal British Legion, hosted a get together
for all the Poppy Appeal helpers and other supporters who helped the
branch to achieve a new record figure of £7,694.61
in 2007.
Among those welcomed to the Get Together were members of
the 4th & 5th Wivenhoe Brownie Packs who had
arranged a sponsored silence that contributed a magnificent sum of £608.51
to the grand total.
During the morning, presentations were made to seven
long serving Appeal collectors and to the members of the Brownie Packs.
Last year’s appeal, nationally, raised over £30
million to assist the work of the Legion in
providing welfare assistance to serving, and ex-service personnel and
their dependants.
Funds from the Appeal enable financial support to be
given covering a wide variety of needs, which included debt problems,
repairs to private accommodation, Legion
residential homes, and hospital visiting.
In
Essex
over the last year nearly £409,000 was distributed from this fund.
